PARLIAMENTARY WORK
The parliamentary group chairman sets out the CSV’s position in the debates on the state budget:
For 2026, Laurent highlighted that the budget supports the most vulnerable in our society through targeted and more effective social measures. At the same time, the country’s future viability is strengthened through high levels of investment in infrastructure, and in education, the environment, digitalisation and innovation. He thus links the state’s social, economic and ecological responsibility. Public debt remains stable in relation to economic strength—the budget is therefore sustainable and also works for the coming generations.
As chairman of the Committee on Institutions, Laurent deals with constitutional legal issues:
He is a member of the working group on the status of MPs.
He moderates the discussions on the reform of electoral law.
For the CSV, Parliament is the country’s first citizens’ council, and the CSV prefers open dialogue with citizens over creating further institutions. He would like to introduce the possibility of electronic voting.
As spokesperson for foreign policy, Laurent represented the CSV’s position on the war in Ukraine and on the conflicts in the Middle East in times of “Trumpism”. The CSV stands by Israel’s right to exist and for a democratic and free Palestine. The CSV stands with the democratic movement in Iran and has advocated for the “Revolutionary Guards” to be designated as a terrorist organisation. Justice and institutions will be the focal points of his parliamentary work.
